Study of the 5 fold gifts Apostles and Prophets
The Church is beginning to acknowledge the need for Apostles and Prophets in the 21st Century
The Church the (Body of Christ )Needs a clearer understanding of the need of these offices.
Read the teaching bellow will give you the understanding you need, to find your place in the body of christ to
find your giftings.
Six Main Function of First-Century Apostles:
1. Taking the gospel to unreached areas (Rom. 15:20).
2. Planting churches upon the foundation of Christ and helping established churches return to this scriptural
foundation (1 Cor. 3:10,11; Gal. 1:6-10; 3:13; Rev. 2:15).
3. Appointing and training the initial leaders of a church (Acts14:21-23; Titus 1:5)
4. Dealing with specific problems, false doctrines or sins (1 Cor. 1:1-16:24; Acts 15)
5. Promoting unity in the Body of Christ and networking churches (Eph. 4:1-16; Acts
11:27-30; Rom. 15:25-27; 1Cor. 16:1-4; 1Cor. 8:9).
6. Demonstrating and imparting the supernatural dimension of the Kingdom of God (2
Cor.12:12; Acts 4:33; 8:4-20; 10:44-46; 19:16; 2Tim 1:6-7).
Of all the fivefold ministers, there are more scriptures in the New Testament about apostles and the apostolic
ministry. The English word “apostle(s)” is used eighty-three times, “evangelist” three times, “pastor” one time,
and “teacher” thirteen times. “Prophet” is mentioned one hundred seventy-two times, but only about twenty-five
percent of those times are in reference to an active prophet in the New Testament.
Why are there so many references to Apostles and illustrations of their ministries in comparison to the other
fivefold ministers? There are several reasons:
1. Jesus chose disciples and named them apostles. They were personally trained by Jesus for three years
and then, after His resurrection, He commissioned them to go into all the nations preaching the gospel and
bringing in those that would become members of Christ’s maturity and ministry. They were to present the
Church to Christ Jesus in all His glory without spot or wrinkle, as a properly prepared Bride adorned for
marriage to her Bridegroom.
2. Most of the references to apostles come from the four Gospels where continual reference is made to the
twelve apostles
3. This was the introduction of a new ministry. The title “apostle” had never before been taught, described,
designated or demonstrated. The religious leaders of God’s people, Israel, were familiar with the ministry of the
prophet as well as the priest, which is typical of the New Testament pastor; the Levite, which is typical of the
New Testament evangelist; and the scribe, which is typical of the New Testament teacher. Since no one had
heard of Apostles being ministers in the ministry of the Tabernacle, it was necessary that apostles be mentioned
and demonstrated more than the rest.

There’s more to Spirit, Soul, and Body than you think!
Did you know that Christian can actually die from sickness of disease while the same power that raised Jesus
from the dead lies dormant within them? Or, did you know that a believer can be overcome with depression, and
bitterness all the while possessing God’s love, joy, and peace in their spirit.
It’s true, they can and they do. Why? Because they really don’t understand what changed when they were born
again and therefore have difficult receiving the promises of God. The Bible says that every born again believer
has undergone a complete inner transformation.- 2 Cor. 5:17)
It doesn’t say that all are becoming new or have the potential of becoming new; they are new the moment you
are born again. But in order for that to make sense, you must first understand how God created you. Mind-Body-
Soul. Many are confused about the operation of the soul and spirit, seeing them basically as the same thing.
Your Spirit is your innermost part, not your immortal soul. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 makes it clear.
If you were talking to me face to face, you’d be seeing my body but speaking to my soul. The word soul is
defined by some as your mind, will, and emotions, and while that’s certainly true, it’s incomplete. Your
conscience” should also be included in that definition. Your soul is really what most people call their
personalities.
You can feel both your body and your soul and are receiving information from them all the time. For example, if I
put my hand on your shoulder, you would know that I touched you through your physical senses. I could also
make you feel happy or sad, or could even hurt you without any physical contact but simply by the words I
speak. Those words are processed by your mind, and the result of their effect is often expressed in your
emotions.
It’s easy to know how your body feels, what’s going on in your mind, and what emotions you’re experiencing.
However, your spirit is much different; it cannot be accessed in any natural way. John 3:6.
He meant that there’s no direct connection between the two they are interrelated, but spirit is spirit and flesh is
flesh. You simply cannot contact your spirit through your five senses or through your mind, will, or emotions.
Therein lies one of the great problems of the Christian life!
If you don’t understand that spiritual reality can’t be felt, then you’ll be confused when God’s Word declares that
you have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead living in you (Eph. 1:18-20).
Back page
When you look at your face in a mirror, you aren’t really seeing yourself, you’re viewing a reflection. Even
though it’s only a reflection, you have learned to trust it and act on what you see. God’s word is just like that
mirror; it reflects perfectly who you are in the spirit (James 1:23-25).
You must look into God’s mirror and trust the spiritual reality you see! It reflects your new born-again spirit, your
innermost part. However, it does not reflect your body or your soul. Your soul wasn’t saved so you may have the
same thoughts and emotions you had before you were saved. And because of that, some seriously doubt
whether or not they were saved. They don’t understand that the change took place in their spirits. Typically,
your body and soul are both impacted by what happens at salvation, but it’s not total nor complete.
The good news is, you can change your mind.. In fact, we are commanded to do so Romans 12:2.
In your soul, old things did not pass away, and all things haven’t yet become new. For that reason, you could
actually die from sickness or disease even though you have all of the power that raised Jesus from the dead
residing untapped within your spirit. It’s like dying of thirst while leaning against a well full of life-giving water.
Think of your soul like the valve on a faucet. It controls the rate and volume of the flow of the spirit into your
body. If your mind is renewed and in agreement with the Word, the valve is wide open. But if it is in agreement
with what your body is feeling or what your emotions are experiencing, then the valve is either closed or in the
process of closing.
Your soul has the power to keep every drop of life-giving power from ever reaching your physical body, or
flooding your body with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. If the valve is open, you’ll experience
healing, deliverance, anointing, victory, power, joy, prosperity, and more. So, keep it open.
This revelation of the relationship of the spirit, soul, and body has transformed my life. When I realized that God
had already given me everything I needed and it’s all contained in my spirit, it set me free. All I needed to do was
release it. That simple understanding changes everything.
The Christian Life isn’t a process of getting from God. It’s a process of renewing the mind and learning to
release what you’ve already received.
If you don’t understand that you have already received all that you will ever need (in your spirit) at salvation,
there will always be an element of doubt. You may know it’s possible or even promised in the word, but you’ll be
trying to perceive it in the mental, emotion, or physical realm, and that’s a formula for failure.
That erroneous concept can also result in a performance-based relationship with God (i.e., if you’re good
enough, if you read the bible enough, if you pay your tithes, and on and on it goes in an attempt to motivate
God to give you what you need). It the misconception that God hasn’t already given you everything, and
somehow, you have to make yourself worthy enough to get it.
You’re already worthy because of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. He paid the price for everything you will ever
need. In fact, you’ve already got it. It’s just a matter of understanding relationship of the spirit to the soul and
body.
If you think spiritual truth can be discerned through your natural senses, then you’ll be baffled when the Bible
says that you’re a brand-new creature who can do the same miraculous works that Jesus did (2 Cor 5:17, John
14:12).
The apparent disparity between your natural experiences and God’s Word will cause you to throw up your hands
in frustration and conclude, “it must not be true.” It’s the understanding of spirit, soul and body that unlocks the
spirit realm so you can experience who you are and what you have in Christ.
In the natural, the spirit realm can’t be seen or felt, the only way to accurately perceive spiritual truth is through
the bible. Simply take God’s Word and believe it! Jesus said in John 6:63 (read).
God’s Word reveals spiritual reality. If you want to know what your spirit is like, you must find out from the word,
not relying on emotions or other perceptions. God’s Word is spirit and life! It’s the reflection of who you really are.
The Church is beginning to acknowledge the need for Apostles and Prophets. Articles have appeared in
several Christian magazines asking questions such as: Where are the modern-day apostles? Who are they?
Were they removed from the Church or are they still active in the Church today?
Six Main Functions of First-Century Apostles
1. Taking the Gospel to unreached areas (Rom. 15:20)
2. Planting Churches upon the foundation of Christ and helping established churches return to scriptural
foundation (1 Cor. 3:10,11; Gal. 1:6-10; Rev. 2:15).
3. Appointing and training the initial leaders of a church (Acts14:21-23; Titus 1:5).
4. Dealing with specific problems, false doctrines or sins (1 Cor. 1:1-16:24; Acts 15).
5. Promoting unity in the body of Christ and networking churches (Eph. 4:1-16; Acts 11:27-30; Rom. 15:
25-27; 1 Cor. 16:1-4; 2Cor. 8:9).
Apostles are miracle workers with sign and wonders: 2 Cor. 12:12, Acts 2:43, Acts 4:33, Acts 5:12
All fivefold ministries are called to govern, guide, gather, ground and guard God’s people.
The Pastor cannot do it all alone. He cannot equip the saints all by themselves. There is no way a local
congregation can reach proper Biblical maturity and ministry without receiving mature ministry from the other
fivefold ministers. There are no scriptures that even suggest that one senior shepherd of a local flock has been
given all the truth and ministry needed to perfect his saints.
Rejection
Satan build his kingdom upon rejection. Satan does not love the demon that carry his assignment and the
demon don’t love their master. His kingdom is established with hate. Once rejection or the womb of rejection set
up in your life, two parallel problem begin to emerge 1) fear of rejection 2) self rejection: These two parallel
problems are the wrong reaction to the hurts of rejection.
When a person has been wounded he fears been wounded again, he put up walls in fear of additional hurts
causes him to create false defense mechanism. (such as all men are dogs, can I trust anyone?) He begin to
suspect the intention of others (paranoid). A paranoid person is very tormented thereby the devil gain victory.
Self rejection: After been wounded he began to reject himself. Questioning himself , what about me that turn
people off?, he began to think if I were different, or if I were someone else he would be loved and accepted. He
enjoys becoming different from his actual self, seek to change his personality after a fantasy in his mind, or
someone he seen on tv. God made us as we are when we reject ourselves and take on various personality we
open ourselves to false and demonic spirits. We take on multiple personalities (schizophrenia).
It is important that inner wombs be healed as it is for physical wombs to be healed. We receive cuts in the hand
we’re quick to cleanse it before it become affected, this also applies to the inner womb, it must be immediately
cleansed by applying forgiveness. Forgiveness is a spiritual antiseptic. An unclean spirit is a spiritual germ it
can gain entrance to the womb and cause a spiritual infection. The womb become festered by resentment,
hatred, anger, bitterness =DEMONALIZATION
Rejection results from the denial of love: When one is loved he is approved and accepted. When one is
rejected he is disapproved and refused. Each of us require love. Love is necessary for the development of a
healthy self life. Sickness of one sort set in where there is no love (ill), even pets need touching love, dogs often
quit eating , get sick, some time die from a lack of love, The Humane society employ people to pat dogs to keep
them healthy. The same with Human Being (show me some love) carry flowers to hospital etc. God is love:
Satan hate love, he is opposed to God who is love, He wants to destroy love he (satan) cannot work amid love.
Fish cannot survive on land , likewise a demon cannot function in an atmosphere of praise and love. Love
prevents satan from working that’s why God said husband love your wife, parents love their children and
Christian love one another.
Evil spirits are unable to enter a person at will they must have open doors. Satan form a strategy to capture a
person life. He can only take advantage of the negative condition in one life. Through parent negative attitude-
Unwanted conception: Rejection is an evil spirit which frequently gain entrance through the parents
1) Baby conceived in lust rather than love, the couple conceive child through fornication, adultery seek to
satisfy sexual appetite rather than to conceive child
2) Conceived too soon after marriage: Another parental rejection(baby become an intrusion in the
parents plans and is rejected) ( on Honeymoon difficult finding baby sitter)
3) Conceived too close to the birth of a previous child-2 babies in pampers now
4) Financial strain on the family is created -baby is the blame -it came as an accident
5) Fears-of pain, complication and deformity of child
6) Wrong sex prefence wanted a boy but got a girl -dresses girl to look like boy
7) Physical problem- A baby may be rejected at birth because of physical defect
Prophecy- This gift is the divine enablement to reveal truth and proclaim it in a timely and relevant manner for
understanding, repentance, or edification. In I Cor. 14:3 according to the scripture it says, “But everyone who
prophesies speaks to men to edify, to exhort and to comfort.”
Stop giving bathroom and parking lot prophesies. Also no alley anointings. Prophecy should be done out in the
open when someone in authority can judge it. What is the real reason why people hide in order to give you a
word? If you got a Word, share it what we may all be edified. There are times where a word should be given in
private, but check the word first with a prophet in authority to you. The reason why I am saying all of this is
because: There have been times where a Pastor will preach a certain word and a member who never came into
serve to hear the word sat out in their car listening to a tape and decided when church was over to give a
person leaving the church a parking lot word opposite of the Pastor. This is dangerous and can leave someone
making the wrong decision.
I Cor. 14:31 “For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.”
Five methods: The Office of The Prophet, Prophetic Preaching, Prophetic Presbytery, The Gift of Prophecy,
and the Spirit of Prophecy.
I. The Office of the Prophet:
The ministry of the prophet in the church is not a gift of the Holy Spirit, but a give extension of Christ Himself as a
prophet. Eph. 4:8,11 states, Wherefore he saith, When he (Jesus) ascended up on high, he led captivity
captive and gave gifts unto men. (v. 11) And he (Jesus) gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.”
When Jesus ascended to Heaven, He sent back as gifts to the Church in the form of men who filled the five fold
ministry offices. No one person received all five, but some received one. When all five move in full maturity,
Christ’s complete ministry to the church is manifested.
Each receives a piece of Christ’s mantel.
The Apostle receives the ability to correct and lay foundation and to build structure upon established foundation.
The Prophet receives the ability to perceive the content of peoples heart, proclaim the future counsels and
purposes of God and to know the secret things of God.
The Evangelists receives the ability to win the lost and disciple new believers.
The Pastor receives Christ’s shepherding heart to protect and minister to the specific needs of the Body of
Christ, and wisdom to counsel.
The Teacher receives the ability to receive, understand and teach revelation of God’s Word.
The office of the prophet is higher than the gift of prophecy. The prophet has the calling and responsibility to
function in much more. The gift of prophecy is for 1) edification, 2) exhortation, and 3) comfort (1 Cor. 14:3).
The office of the prophet is designed to function at a higher realm of ministry than the gift of prophecy. The
prophet as a five-fold minister to the Body of Christ has the same authority to preach and prophesy as a pastor
does to preach and counsel in his local church.
NOTE: The prophet does not have the right to override the senior pastor’s position or judgment. New
Testament prophets function in all the ministries of Old Testament prophet as well as standing in the role as
Christ the prophet. Their prophecies flow in the areas of: 1) guidance, 2) instruction, 3) rebuke, 4) judgment, 5)
revelation, and 6) whatever Christ chooses to speak for the purifying and perfecting of His Church.
The gift of prophecy often is confused with the prophetic office. There is the ministry of the prophet, but not
everyone who prophesies is a prophet or is operating in the gift of prophecy. You may prophesy, but operating
in the gift of prophecy does not qualify you to stand in the office of a prophet.
NOTE: that those who prophesy under the spirit of prophecy should not assume that they have the gift of
prophecy or the office of the prophet.
Naturally, a prophet would have the gift of prophecy in operation, but he also has some of the gifts of revelation.
To stand in the office of a prophet, one must have a consistent manifestation of at least two of the revelation
gifts (word of wisdom (future), and word of knowledge (past and present), or discerning of spirits plus prophecy.
II. The Gift of Prophecy:
(Acts 2:17, I Cor. 12:10, 14:1-39; I Thess. 5:20, Romans 12:6)
It is a gift, not an office. We must remember that the Gift of prophecy is a gift. It is not an office as in Eph. 4:11.
The gift is a body ministry function, the office is a headship function. Listed below are some attributes of the gift
of prophecy:
1. It is given by grace and activated by faith.
(Romans 12:6; Gala. 3:5)
2. It works on the same principle as salvation, just
receive. (Eph. 2:8; Romans 14:23)
3. It isn’t based on Christian maturity (Acts 10:45)
4. It isn’t based on correct doctrine. (Acts 19:1-6)
5. It cannot be earned (I Cor. 4:7)
6. It cannot be purchased (Acts 8:18)
7. It can produce deep conviction in the hearts of
unbelievers. (I Cor. 14:24)
Importance of the Gift of Prophecy:
Prophecy is the most edifying gift for a congregation (I Cor. 14:4). The other 8 gifts are focused gifts that
normally bless one specific person or a few people at a time. The gift of prophecy can bless hundreds of people
at once. Please note that there is a thin line between prophecy and divination (witchcraft). Truly hear from God
before you speak anything as thus saith the Lord.
Remember the bible says he gives you in part, so you prophesy in part. I Cor. 13:9
All may prophesy, but the ministry of a prophet is chosen by God.
III. The Spirit of Prophesy:
(Num. 11:24-30; I Sam. 10:10; I Sam. 19:20-24; II Chron. 20:12)
Definition: The Spirit of prophecy is an anointing arising from Christ within the believer which takes place on
occasions of special anointing. Revelation 19:10 says, “…worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit
of prophecy.”
You can expect this manifestation when those who are not prophets or do not have the gift of prophecy will
normally not prophesy; but when the spirit of prophecy is present, they may do so. Expect the manifestation of
the spirit of prophecy at the following times:
1. When a mighty prophetic presence of the Lord fills the service, you will find it easier to prophesy then to
keep silent.
2. When people come under a company of prophets or under the mantle of an anointed prophet.
3. When people are challenged by a minister to let God arise and testify through them by the spirit of
prophecy.
It is during these times that any saint can enter in and exercise faith to prophesy. Romans 12:6, “Let us
prophesy according to the proportion of faith.” 1 Cor. 14:31, “For you may all prophesy one by one, that all may
learn, and all may be comforted.”
Some scriptural examples of the Spirit of prophecy:
Numbers 11:24-30 - God took the prophetic spirit on Moses and placed it on the 70 elders and they began
to prophesy.
I Samuel 10:10 - Saul met a company of prophets, and the spirit of prophecy came upon him so that he began to
prophesy.
1 Samuel 19:2-24 - The Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul’s messengers and they prophesied.
II Chron. 20:12-17 - Jahaziel prophesied to Jehoshaphant.
II Chron. 24:20 - Zechariah prophesied repentance.
NOTE: relationship is a key to moving in the spirit of prophecy. Those that desire to learn how to prophesy
should find a prophet or company of prophets to train them how to release their faith so they can move in the
spirit of prophecy.
IV. Prophetic Preaching:
Preaching is not the same as prophesying. Prophecy is normally spontaneous, by divine inspiration and
revelation knowledge. Preaching is speaking biblical truths which have been researched, studied and arranged
for presentation. Preaching proclaims the Logos while prophecy gives a Rhema from the Logos. Logos is the
entire Word of God while Rhema is a verse in the Logos.
Prophetic preaching is a different level of preaching and has a number of different qualities.
1. It must be Biblical truth, judged by the Word of God.
2. The words and illustrations are exactly what the Holy
Spirit wants to say.
3. It is meant for the people who are present at the time.
4. Any five-fold minister can preach under this anointing.
A prophetic message is not 1) preached from prepared notes; or 2) preached from general thoughts with
substance filled in by God during delivery.
